HIS LAST FIGHT

WRITTEN BY ERIC ROMAN

I

Simon Belmont, the Vampire Killer, is nearing the end of his third and final Quest. Simon Belmont has encountered many of Dracula’s minions and most ultimate evils. Many of these were familiar pushovers, like the flying Medusa Heads, yet some seem as if they came directly from the tales of his forefather, Trevor Belmont. Two giant water snakes and a Phantom Bat which split into three. The Castle seemed much bigger, and it was. During his fights, Simon had traveled through the Library, Dungeon, Treasury, and the Clock Tower and up another tower in which a spinning blade wheel nearly took his life. Now he sensed that he would finally rid this world of evil forever.

He entered a room with a purple rug at the doorway. He was ready to meet Dracula, face to fang, once again. There were a few candles in the room. He remembered that he had gotten a Dagger in the tower with the wheel blade. He was rewarded with hearts strengths for the Dagger, but he knew that the Boomerang would most likely put Dracula away for good. He proceeded inside of another room.

Dead end. The room was empty, except for two platforms on either side of the room and a lone trident spear lying in one corner of it. He turned around only to discover that his only exit was sealed. Simon gazed out of the glass window and admired the moon. Suddenly, Simon heard a commotion from the floor above. There was a shrill reptilian scream, and the sound of flesh being torn by something sharp. Suddenly, the room violently shook as parts of the ceiling broke off and hit Simon on the head. Something fell from above, and it squealed in pain as it landed with a thud.

It lay on the floor for about a minute or so. Whatever it was, it seemed dead. Simon observed the thing and noticed some odd features about it. One thing he noticed was its' sharp, birdlike beak and three-clawed hands. The beak was bloody. A drop of blood fell to the back of his neck from the hole in the ceiling. He wiped the blood off with his hand. Upon more observation, it looked like the picture of a Slograsaur (we now know them as Pterodactyls) he saw in an old schoolbook, minus the wing finger (the long finger on Pteros which support the wing).

The heap rose from the ground. That Slogra stood 6 feet tall. The long head seemingly hung by a thread of a neck attached to a gaunt body. The greenish creatures' rib cage was clearly visible and Simon could just make out miscellaneous organs moving beneath. Despite its' dinosauroid characteristics, the Slogra seemed very human like, fragile. A spine connected the torso to the pelvis and legs. The Slogra took a step forward, and the rib cage and spine shook with the step. The human like hip bones had two fairly muscular legs attached. Finally, the lizard's tail. The Slogra eyed Simon and sucked the blood into its' beak. It's tongue has long since rotted off. The Slogra readied his claws and it roared an attack call. The creature rushed at Simon, trying to stab Simon with its’ beak. Simon hit it once, and it leaped to the ceiling. It crawled on the ceiling, and dropped. It landed on the other side of the room and then it took the spear that was on the floor. Simon hit the Slogra and every blow sent the Slogra into the air. It would crawl on the ceiling, and would land wherever Simon would stand. After a fight that lasted a few minutes in this tiny room, Simon disarmed the creature. The spear splintered with a hit.

The Slograsaur was changing colors, to a burned green and black. This Dinosaur Knight came at Simon with the beak. It used it well, as if his nose was a spear! Simon hit the Slogra for the last time. It squealed in the agony of defeat. Then, a silent scream, yet the most radical wailing anyone has EVER heard. The Slogra's head exploded, decorating the windows with a blast of blood and anything else that was inside, now outside, and the rest of the body ignited. Simon's final, crushing blow had ended the reign of dinosaurs on this world. The dead end collapsed, and Simon proceeded...

II

Having ended the reign of the dinosaurs, Simon, badly scarred, continued. He found a few drumsticks and hearts which helped his body regain his strength and mystic powers. He could see the outside from where he was standing now. The wind blew in freely and cooled his body. He peered into the abyss of clouds below. A scream. Inhuman, something lizard like it was. Familiar, too. Adjusting to the gray of the clouds below, Simon could, barely, make out something blue that appeared momentarily, and retreated back down into the cloudiness. Simon went lower down into the hallway, where he could see more. Simon stared. With great speed, a devilish face screamed up to Simon. A winged creature rushed vertically up the side of the castle, knocking Simon to the other end of the room with the wind.

The Blue Gargoyle flew through the opening and landed in the room. This creature must have been undead, as his abdomen was nothing more than the last rib bones of the cage. This was probably the result of the argument Simon heard earlier, when blood poured and shrieks seared. The Gargoyle leaped into the air and flapped its' leathern wings. It flew a circle about the room and shot Simon with ...
